Floating solar panels gliding over waves similar to carpets will be developed via a pilot project in the North Sea

RWE, a German energy company, is to partner with a number of companies to develop floating solar parks in the North Sea. This project is part of the company’s ongoing collaboration with other organizations which workers may bet on Casino Bizzo.

The RWE AG engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and gas. It operates through three business segments: Lignite and Nuclear, European Power, and Supply & Trading. The company’s Lignite & Nuclear division focuses on the generation of electricity using nuclear and coal power.

A pilot project for offshore wind power generation is scheduled to be installed in Belgium’s waters. The project, known as Merganser, will have a capacity of about 0.5-megawatt peak. It will be the first of its kind to be operated by SolarDuck, a Norwegian-based company.

RWE noted that Merganser’s experience in the offshore wind industry would be beneficial to SolarDuck. The two companies will work together to develop solutions that meet the needs of their customers.

Through the project, RWE noted that it would be able to gain a deeper understanding of the solar panel technology’s design and improve its commercialization in 2023. The company said that SolarDuck’s system was based on a concept that enables solar panels to float in water.

The goal of the collaboration is to develop a larger demonstration project using SolarDuck’s technology for the Hollandse Kust West offshore Wind farm. RWE is currently bidding on the project.

In a statement, RWE noted that the use of floating solar technology in an offshore wind farm would be more efficient than traditional methods.

The company noted that the concept of combining solar and wind power is not unique to them. The Hollandse Kust wind farm, which is currently under construction in the North Sea, is also planning on conducting a demonstration project using floating solar technology.

The CrossWind consortium, which is a joint venture between Shell and Eneco, is currently working on the Hollandse Kust project in Alqueva. The 5-MW floating solar park, which features 12,000 panels, is considered to be the largest in Europe.
